Some common characteristics of metalworking fluids

The process lubricants used in the cutting, forming, processing and protection of metals and their alloys are collectively referred to as metalworking fluids, also known as metalworking fluids. In the metal processing process, in order to reduce the cutting force during cutting, the heat generated in the cutting area is removed in time to reduce the cutting temperature and improve the durability of the tool, thereby increasing production efficiency, improving the surface roughness of the workpiece, and ensuring the accuracy of the workpiece. For the best economic results, metalworking fluids are usually used.

Metalworking fluids have the functions of lubrication, cooling, cleaning, and rust prevention during metal processing; the core function is: on the one hand, cooling is used to reduce deformation heat during processing, and on the other hand, lubrication is used to reduce metal processing. Friction heat to improve the quality of metal processing and prolong the service life of the tool.

        1. Cooling performance: The cooling effect is to take away the heat of the chip from the solid (tool, workpiece) through the convection and vaporization between the emulsion and the cutting tool, the chip and the workpiece, thereby effectively reducing the cutting temperature and reducing The thermal deformation of the workpiece and the tool maintains the hardness of the tool and improves the machining accuracy and tool durability.

        2. Lubrication performance: The lubrication function is to reduce the friction between the rake face and the chips, the flank face and the machined surface to form a part of the lubricating film to prevent the adhesion between the tool and the chips or the workpiece, so good lubrication can reduce Functional consumption, tool wear and good surface finish.

        3. Cleaning performance: In the metal processing process, cutting chips, iron powder, grinding chips, oil stains, sand particles, etc. often adhere to the surface and gaps of the workpiece, tool or grinding wheel, and contaminate the machine tool and workpiece at the same time, making it difficult to clean and make the tool Or the cutting edge of the grinding wheel becomes blunt, which affects the cutting effect. Therefore, the emulsion is required to have a good cleaning effect. The cleaning performance of the emulsion refers to the ability of the emulsion to prevent these fine particles from sticking and use the mechanical washing effect of the liquid stream to wash them away.

        4. Anti-rust performance: In the metal processing process, the workpiece should be corrosive to environmental media such as water, oxygen, sulfur, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, chloride ions, free acid and alkali, and sludge produced by emulsion decomposition or oxidative deterioration. Corrosion occurs in contact with the medium, and the parts of the machine tool parts in contact with the emulsion will corrode. Therefore, the emulsion is required to have a certain anti-rust ability.

Metalworking fluids should not only have good cooling, lubricity, cleaning and rust resistance, but also anti-corrosion, antibacterial, anti-scaling, anti-foaming, thermal stability, non-toxic, harmless, and non-toxic. Conditions such as pungent odor, no pollution to the environment, and convenient use.
